No Pepper Problem Here, People!

We here are at Surf Road realize that many of you may be concerned about the recent salmonella scare that has been linked to certain hot peppers. We would like to alleviate any fears that you may have concerning the safety of our product. First of all, we deal with the most reputable produce supplier in the country. We can trace the origins of any item we receive to the exact field and harvest whence it came. The company has been on top of the crisis since the beginning and will only provide us with produce deemed safe. Secondly, we do not serve any raw peppers in our salsas. We roast our serranos at a very high heat, well above temperatures required for killing any bacteria. The jalepenos we use are pickled. Lastly, the data pertaining to the outbreak puts all of the contaminated produce in the Midwest, with no outbreaks in Florida in particular or the South in general. Please know that we are monitoring the situation closely and are as concerned about your safety as you are. Thank you for your support- The Taco Team

FISH-TACO FIND

*ARTICLE FROM THE MIAMI HERALD*

Surf’s up in Hallandale, where two young wave riders have opened a super-casual Mexi-Cali grill, Surf Road Taco. ”Our mission is to bring a little Baja to South Florida,” says co-owner Caite O’Hara, who runs the 24-seat spot on the site of an old Russian bakery with partner Chris Rainwater.

The menu, which tops out at $9, offers burritos, tortillas, ceviches, salads, chimichangas and quesadillas, but it’s the cabbage-flecked fish tacos — choose fried or grilled — that really got our attention. Homemade pico de gallo and fresh cilantro-cream sauce set this month-old eatery apart, too.

Diners get a basket of fresh fried tortillas and unlimited trips to the salsa bar. Sangria, beer and wine are available. So, grab a board, er, tray, and test the waters. Surf Road is open 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday at 101 NE Third St., Hallandale; 954-239-0128, surfroadtaco.com.

FEATURED LOCAL.

This week we at Surf Road Taco are highlighting none other than Brendan O’Hara and the Humble Ones! The Humble Ones triumphantly reunited on stage at Transit Lounge last Saturday for what can only be described as a spectacular set. Brendan, just home from months on the road fell back in with his South Florida family without missing a beat (the pun may or may not be intended- I haven’t decided yet). The Humble Ones are an eclectic bunch of incredible musicians who never fail at bringing out the best in one another and their fearless leader, Brendan. For anyone who may have missed the show, please check out their website www.brendanohara.org for South Florida show dates, and be sure to catch these amazing guys do their thing right here in our own back yard!
